The standard timeframe is around 4–8 months. It varies depending on busy periods and whether additional documents are required. As of 2025, processing in the Tokyo Immigration area is particularly slow, and some cases take over a year.
QWhat are the eligibility requirements for PR?+
Generally: continuous residence, good conduct, financial independence, and being in Japan’s interest (taxes, social insurance, income, etc.). See our article for details (Link).
QAre there statuses that cannot apply for PR?+
Yes. For example, Technical Intern Training, Temporary Visitor, Student, and some Specified Activities are not eligible.
QWhat period of stay is required on the Residence Card?+
In principle, “3 years” or more.
QIf I’m a spouse/child of a Japanese/PR holder or HSP, what years of residence are required?+
Child: 1 year; Spouse: 3 years; HSP 70 points: 3 years; HSP 80 points: 1 year. In some cases requirements may be shortened. See our article for details (Link).
QIs cohabitation and the substance of the marriage important?+
Yes. You need to substantiate the marital relationship with evidence of continued marriage and cohabitation (Resident Record, joint documents, photos, etc.).
QWhat is the income guideline?+
Roughly ¥3,000,000 + ¥800,000 per dependent (household income may be considered).
QAre unpaid taxes/social insurance a negative factor?+
Yes. Any arrears should be fully paid and receipts/proof of payment attached.
QWhat if I have a criminal record or traffic violations?+
It depends on the content, frequency, and timing. Even minor violations can be negative if numerous. It’s important to explain the background and show measures to prevent recurrence.
QWhat if I changed jobs or had a period of unemployment?+
Approval may still be possible if you can demonstrate continuous employment activity and stability. If unemployed, we submit explanations on the reasons and your outlook.
QWhat documents are typically required?+
Resident Record, taxation/payment certificates, employment certificate & withholding slip, proof of social insurance enrollment (usually a copy of your health insurance card), Statement of Reasons, Letter of Guarantee, etc. Depending on your situation, we select and submit appropriate documents to evidence eligibility.
QDo documents differ for employees and the self-employed?+
Self-employed applicants need to add final tax returns, tax payment certificates (No. 1/No. 2), and materials evidencing business activity (books, etc.).
QHow do I handle overseas-issued documents?+
After issuance by the overseas authority, translate them into Japanese for submission. If requested by Immigration, you may need an apostille/consular legalization depending on the country. See our page for details (Link).

QWhat exactly is covered?+
Please see the pricing table for each plan’s scope of support.
QWhen is the best time to consult?+
We recommend contacting us 2–3 months before you wish to apply, if possible. Later inquiries are also welcome — contact us anytime.
QCan you submit my application to Immigration for me?+
Under the Perfect Plan, a registered application agent will submit your documents to Immigration on your behalf. In some cases, Immigration may require the applicant to appear in person for an interview.
QCan my family apply together?+
Yes, we accept simultaneous applications for family members in the same household. As a rule, ¥33,000 per additional family member.
QMy status may expire while the PR is pending…+
A PR application is only for PR approval. You must separately manage the period of stay on your status of residence. We also support extension applications — feel free to consult us.
QCan I travel abroad while it’s pending?+
Yes, but long stays abroad can negatively affect the review. If unavoidable, keep clear records of the reason and duration.
QWhat if I move during the process?+
You must notify Immigration. A late address change notice can be a negative factor.
QIf it’s not approved, what should I do?+
It’s common to review the documents, shore up weaknesses (settle any taxes, stabilize employment, rebuild explanations), and reapply. Please feel free to consult us for a resubmission as well.
QHow do you handle personal information?+
We strictly manage personal information and use it only for your application.
QDo you offer online consultations or multilingual support?+
Yes, we can meet on Zoom. We also support English.
